Greetings to all! Here is my first challenge for you.


Set your fic in the time between Frodo's decision to leave on the Quest, and the departure into the West; it may be peopled by any character in LOTR. The theme will be either starvation or plenty. Include the word "orange", and the sensation of cold.

Optional elements (use any or none): white cloth, a high-flying bird, restrict dialogue to one word only.

Because we're doing a restart, the time limit will be 45 minutes.


The challenge will last two weeks. Since the comm has been quiet so long, I'd like to ask that those reading this post give us a greeting in the comments, just so we can get a sense of how many people are still following along here. *waves*

Well, we're back, she said.

You might notice that I am considering this a clean slate -- starting over, without wiping the community clean. Here's hoping for a better run. Not, that is, to say the first run wasn't great. Thank you for sticking with me, through my crappiness and all -- thank you so much.

This next Tuesday, October 5th, ringprov will officially come out of hiatus. Look for a new (and fitting, I think) challenge to be posted then.

This community has been quiet for rather awhile. I wrote a tale for Challenges #1 ('An embarassing or terrible secret') and #24(triumph, flat, blind, ruin; hopeful). This is both slash and het (thereby doubly narrowing the audience, I suppose.) and is a sequel to my story Rosemary, for Remembrance, but you don't have to have read that one to understand this one.

So, I wrote this for the most recent challenge. I combined challenges 8. 10, and 16, all word-and-mood challenges.

Author's Note: I wrote this one for the fun of it, for ringprov (a combining-challenges challenge), and to see how many different pairings I could reconcile in one story. Faramir so very much deserves to be loved.

Some of the pairings are more subtly presented than others. I'd love to see in comments which ones folks noticed. If you *really* want a list of pairings before you'll read the story, the version in my journal has a hidden list.
